About the brand
Grimm's is a family-run wood manufacturer, in existence since 1978, producing handcrafted play materials and furniture exclusively in Europe. Its play materials are inspired by alternative educational approaches such as Waldorf and Montessori, and by children themselves. It uses wood from sustainable forestry, treats surfaces with glazes instead of varnishes, and states all paints and oils used are non-toxic and saliva-resistant. Source: Grimm's magazine page. Note: the homepage linked above is the maker's European site in English (prices in euros), not a US store.
What the brand publishes
Grimm's own page states the safety of its play materials and furniture is regularly verified through internal and external tests in accordance with European and US toy safety standards. No numbered standard and no lab is named on that first-party page, and no testing frequency or test scope is given. Retailer pages name EN 71 and US standards (CPSIA / ASTM 963) — that numbering is retailer wording, not Grimm's own. Source: Grimm's magazine page.
The honest caveats
No recall found in this pass
No Grimm's CPSC recall was found in this research pass; that is a search result, not proof that no recall has ever existed.
