About the brand

A naming note first: “Hape Cheery Critter” is a product-line name, not the maker — the maker is Hape, and this page is about Hape, filed under the name as listed. Hape's US storefront states “Inspiring Play Since 1986” and summarises its materials as sustainably sourced wood and non-toxic paint. Source: Hape US storefront.

What the brand publishes

Hape product pages carry the warning line “This toy meets the European and American safety standards EN 71 and ASTM F963.” No dedicated brand safety or testing-program page was found, and no testing steps, frequency, or lab is described at brand level — so this is a per-product compliance claim, not a described program. The honest caveats

Anima Bamboo recall 2007 — different product

Anima Bamboo Collection Games were recalled in May 2007 (about 5,000 units, Target): the toys could contain lead paint, toxic if ingested. That is a different Hape product from the listed Cheery Critter rattle trio, and no recall number was surfaced for it in this research, so none is printed here. No other Hape CPSC recall was found in this pass.

Outreach: we emailed Hape on October 23, 2026 asking for certificates and lab reports for seven items. No reply yet.
