About the brand

PlanToys has been in business since 1981, founded by Vitool Viraponsavan and a group of architecture students after discovering rubber trees were being burned once the latex industry no longer needed them. Every PlanToy is crafted at its headquarters in Trang, southern Thailand, from reclaimed rubberwood — trees no longer producing latex after 25 years, with fertilizer stopped three years before removal so the wood is free from toxins — using formaldehyde-free E-Zero glue and organic pigment plus water-based dyes. PlanToys explicitly states it is NOT FSC certified, because it uses plantation wood from the rubber industry, not forest wood. Sources: PlanToys help page, PlanToys FAQ.

What the brand publishes

PlanToys' FAQ states all its products comply with rigorous safety standards, meeting its own stringent in-house standards and fulfilling or exceeding the European (EN71) and American (ASTM) safety requirements. No ASTM edition or EN 71 part numbers are given there, and no lab is named at brand level. The FAQ also lists ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and SA 8000 — those are quality, environmental, workplace-safety, and social-accountability certifications, NOT toy-safety standards, and are not presented as such here. The honest caveats

Baby Gyms recall 2017 — not the stacking ring

PlanToys Baby Gyms were recalled in October 2017 (about 500 US units): side rope crossbars posed a strangulation hazard, date codes TH 080116 through TH 082916. That is a baby gym, not the listed First Stacking Ring, and no CPSC number was captured for it in this pass, so none is printed here.

Penguin figures recall 2007–08 — not the ring

A 2007–08 recall of PlanToys toy penguin figures (about 3,000 units, head detachment) likewise does not affect the ring.
