About the brand
Under the Nile was originally a family company founded in 1998 by Janice and Mohamed Masoud, working with an Egyptian farm partner. It uses only 100% certified organic cotton, produced without chemicals, pesticides, or dyes with heavy metals, using low-impact, metal-free dyes, no bleach in any process, no chemical finishing (formaldehyde named as the conventional finishing chemical avoided), and no flame retardant on any product. Its snaps are made of nickel-free copper, according to OEKO-TEX Standard 100 — snaps only, not whole products. Source: Under the Nile FAQ.
What the brand publishes
An important distinction: GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) is an organic-textile certification program, not a toy-safety testing program. Under the Nile's FAQ describes GOTS certification covering fabric, thread, snaps, hangtags, packaging, and worker treatment across the organic textile supply chain, and claims it was the first baby clothing company in the US to become GOTS certified, with its farm and factory in Egypt Fair Trade certified. No toy-safety testing program, named toy standard, or named lab was found in this pass, and no GOTS certifier name or certificate number is recorded here — a retailer-reported license number was not verified against the GOTS database and is not published. The honest caveats
